Attendance

You must attend all the classes that are part of your course, whether lectures, seminars or tutorials and any additional classes your teachers may arrange. If you know that you are going to miss a lesson you should advise the department in advance. You will need to provide evidence of the reason why you will miss.

If you are sick you must telephone the department by 8.30 on the day you will miss classes. When you return you must bring a doctors note stating that you were sick.

Absence

You are expected to have 100% attendance but we know that things happen. If there are special circumstances you must write a letter for the head of department who will consider it and take it to the faculty committee.

A general guideline is:

3% absence for any one unit you will receive a first warning

6% absence for any one unit you will receive a second warning

9% absence for any one unit you will receive a final warning

If there are special circumstances that are discussed by the scientific committee and the faculty members we may be able to raise absence rates.

However, if absence is 10% or above without acceptable reasons, students will not be allowed to sit their exams in the first round but will have to wait until the second round in September to participate.

More than 15% absence without acceptable reasons and students will not be allowed to sit their exam and will in effect fail the unit and need to take exams the following year. With special circumstances agreed by the scientific committee and faculty students may be able to take resits in September.

More than 20% absence even with special circumstances, students will need to take their examinations in the following year.
